Arizona Single Cactus on the Hillside

Depth in photography can be difficult to achieve, but in this photo, I experimented by placing a single cactus in the middle foreground. The idea was to create a sense of layers: the near ground where the viewer stands, the cactus just one step further, and the sunset stretching beyond that.
Positioning the cactus slightly forward became an anchor point for the eye, subtly leading the viewer through the image. The contrast between the sharply defined cactus and the softer, fading hues of the sunset helped enhance this sense of depth. The blurred foreground and gradual shift in focus toward the distant sky gave the illusion of space, making the scene more immersive.
I often struggle with creating depth in photography, but this experiment reminded me that even a single subject—strategically placed—can transform a flat image into a layered, dimensional experience.
