Some places are point and look beautiful. You look at a flower, point at it, and say, "Do you see that flower?" The flower is gorgeous. Then everyone can say yes, the color of the flower is pretty. The heart-shaped petals are delicate. The dew on the green steam is stunning.

The desert is an empty beauty.

You cannot point at an empty horizon and say, "Look at that thing?" because there is nothing to point at. It is empty.

Empty beauty is one of my favorite types of beauty.

Empty beauty is what I see when I look at an endless sky of blue. I particularly like the proportions in this photo because the sky stretches high above the distant masa. That gives it the empty beauty I feel when I look at the desert horizon.

I love empty beauty.

We visited family this weekend, and the sky was an endless blue on the road between Farmington and Albuquerque.
