This study depicts a Hopi mother tending to her daughter’s hair, capturing a quiet moment of care that speaks to something larger about family and connection. I have always been drawn to the ways everyday acts of care, such as tending to someone’s hair or helping them dress, require the time, patience, and love of another person. These rituals make affection tangible. They remind us that love is not only something we feel, but something we practice through the small, repeated gestures that connect us across generations.
